For those interested, the forum ranking is simply a way to show users who are the most active participants, or who the moderators and admins are.

Users will attain higher ranks through posting in the forums, so the higher the rank, the more posts were made. So if you see someone with the rank of Lance Corporal and you only have Private rank it's becuase they have been posting more.

The Moderators have been given the rank fo Warrant -- to distinquish them as someone who runs things/controls things from a technical standpoint (can you tell I was in the military?). These folks can delete posts, edit them and generally act as the police of the forums.

The Admins (there are only two) are myself (Commandant because it's my site) and Biggy (Website SMAG) because he's the most active user and a close friend of mine (we play darts together).

For those in prior service (or currently serving) it may be possible for me to assign you a rank icon from your service but I will reserve this for moderators and admins unless I get really hammered by someone who is really active in the forum and wants to use their branch rank -- like Biggy whining enough to get Army rank instead of USMC rank!

    It could happen.

These ranks DO NOT reflect anyones current or past rank in the military! They only represent they're rank in terms of the forum here.

    Have fun!
    Erik

    Forgot one:

Dart Warrant is a reserved rank for forum moderators. So if you see one of these (there are 6 I think) they have the power to delete, edit and generally police the forums.

Though those that weren't in the Corps might not know that it is common (or was anyway) for Marines to call First Sgt's 'TOP' if they were close to them and not very new to the corps -- Privates would get slaughtered for doing so! They/We also called Master Sgt's and even some Master Guns (oops I mean Master Gunnery Sergeant) 'TOP' and it was considered a sign of respect or admiration.

One of my favorite 'bosses' was Top Barnes. He was a great guy and very funny when he wanted to be, but also very tough too!

same here. I remember Gunny 'Ski - Great guy, great Marine.

You ever miss being in the Corps, Erik? I think my favorite duty stations were Quantico, VA and MCAS El Toro, back in the day. I miss Okinawa (Camp Hanson) sometimes, but most of all, I miss my friends.

Even tho I left the Corps more than two decades ago, I still think of it often and keep in touch with a few friends.

    Erik,
How about having special titles / ranks (avatars) for Manufartures Reps so that they are easy to recognize and more credible to forum visitors.

Isn't missing the corps part of being a marine? Smile

Ya there are times when I miss it (a lot of them), but alas, we can't be young forever!

The rank of Major would be cool.....

BTW I like Mr. Lowy's avatar, but for those that do not one the "avatar of a sales weasel" would serve as inspiration for them to get or have a cool avatar made.

since Mr. Lowy uses the Unicorn logo as his avatar, maybe each company rep could use their company logo. For instance, Mike from Darterz could use his gator logo.

Erik - any chance I can go back to Sgt Major? I really like those stripes, and I don't really figure I am Officer material. No offence, but the Lieutenant's bars are kind small and wimpy looking anyway.....I just see myself as a working guy here, trying to help, trying to contribute, I'll never be anyone who runs anything like an Officer would...can you do that without any trouble, or would you have to delete my actual posts to lower the number of posts to do it? I could go and dump a bunch of my short idiotic posts, would that do it? Hang on, if I deleted all in that category, I would be lucky to stay a Lance Corporal Very Happy .......can anything be done??

It matters not really...but if you really want to remain a smag then I might be able to hook you up....Do you know much about smag's? They are the boss. This big dawgs of the enlisted ranks...they rule the battalion and laugh at junoir officers...they spit nails and eat fire..they are bad mo fo's!

Seriously, a smag is the man. A butter bar quakes in his boots around them!

(ssshhhh, actually I have read some of your old posts and watched enough movies to know that the Sarge is the one who gets the important things done, and in the background, and that is who I like to be, not all spit and polish and shine and useless! I have watched Stripes about 20 times, ya know!! I didn't want people to know all that! My Dad was a Staff Sgt in the British Army. And, no I don't really want to be a civvy, but I don't want that jerky captain bossing me around either...!!)
