OK, since I've started several of these, here is another...

If the money isn't the reason to go to a tournament, then shoudl tournaments not be for money, but for something else? Trophies?

Before you answer that, let me clerify the question:

Money would be the main reason but I like to have trophies. Very Happy

hehe and unlike some, you know that I like to give them Smile at least if that plaque on your wall that came with the $300 you won at the Mid-Columbia Open is any indication!

    Erik

PS.. I am thinking of adding an additional event to the Mid-Columbia! Last years champ vs. this years in a one on one match best of 7 legs -- bragging rights only!

In my opinion, no trophies, only so much room in a house. I have other stuff to take up that room.

Before I read your ADO sanctioned post the first thing that came to mind was; "A good cause!" Our league sponsor a Serviceman's Charities Tourney, a Toy For Tots tourney and a Thanksgiving food drive tourney.

I've played in a lot of those and always enjoyed them.

But let me ask you this: Should ADO Sanctioned Tournaments pay charities instead of the winning players?

I hate trophies. I've thrown all the trophies I've ever received away except for plaques I've received for being on the U.S. All-Star team. Why not smaller items such as a medallion or something? Or what I think is the absolute BEST idea is a tournament trophy or plaque that annually has its winners' names enshrined on it for future players to see. Then every year when the tournament comes around, the trophy/plaque is displayed all weekend for everyone to "reminisce" about previous wins/losses and to look forward to having THEIR names enshrined on it! I think it'd make it more fun.

This maybe hedging my answer, but I would say a payout to players and 15% to charities. Better yet would be a matching gift to charities by tourney sponsors (I know it will never happen, but I can dream can't I?)

Dave I really like that idea! And I am working on it for our league champs and our league challenge match champs.

The Mid-Columbia gave out a plaque with the winnings ($300) and in the future may also have a continuous plaque to go along with it.

    Cheers

I would also like coffee mugs, medallions, T-shirts, signature darts (crafted to my specs) named after me to be given to me and the following years winner and..... OH, did I mention the jewel encrusted plaque?

I'm not surprised - being former military we're more used to medals and such.

And thinking along those lines, what I'd like to see in awards would be in the form of military ribbons you can wear on your league shirt. Maybe you could also wear your level of play (A,B,C) on your collar. Tournament awards and pins would go above the ribbons. Team awards would go on the other side like military citation ribbons.
