OK who's driven these cars? I'm looking at renting for 5 days next month and while I am doing so to get better mileage on a long drive (to my 30 year re-union) I want something a little more sporty and with a little more room then say a tiny Kia.

So, these two seem to get about 32mpg on the high side and both have about 175hp in their 4 banger versions and I no longer drive at 100+mph (who can get away with it anymore anyway?! lol) so it's not really important to have a 150mph car here. On the otherhand I will be going somewhere with narrow winding roads in the mountains and around lakes where I used to drive a FIAT like I was being chased by the devil (he may well have been chasing but he never caught up! Twisted Evil ) and I'd like to 'enjoy' the ride as much as legally possible (ok maybe slightly more then legally possible but no longer in the triple digits range)...

So, who's driven either of these?

Remember, this is a guy who used to drive this:

The Altima gets more mileage, but in my opinion, the Dodge Avenger is a more comfortable ride.

Haven't driven either, but Ian just got back from a business trip and had the Altima - he loved it. Said it was much sportier than he had anticipated with great gas mileage.

(Take THAT for whatever it might be worth! Laughing )

i used to own an altima...
they are known for being one of the "sportier" midsized sedans... if there is such a thing. supposed to have tighter suspension etc...

honestly... its main function is to be a family car. so i wouldnt be expecting the fun u had in the fiat.

if you want that... maybe see if you can rent a corvette / camaro...

but those wont give u the gas mileage.

The wife and I drove all around Wisconsin and Illinois in the new Altima. It's simply great. We have even talked about getting one. As the 2 we have rented have been good quality and intuitive to drive.

    Mini Cooper!

Though I was a FIAT mechanic in a past life and drove many the above is actually a Morris Mini Cooperized (meaning it was originally a Morris Mini 1000 that was converted to a Cooper S by installing a 1275 A+ that was slightly modded up (cam etc) and a set of Cooper S disk brakes -- and more)...

cant go wrong with a nissan product. I got a new Xterra just about 2 years ago....and can say that with the exception of my Range Rover, I have never had a better purpose built car. Fits our life style well. With about 10 miles per gallon better milage than the Range Rover

LOL well that sounds like our F150 4x4 Super Crew! Gets better mileage then our Jeep and hauls a LOT more gear Smile We call it 'the Load Warrior'!

(the Jeep is 'the road warrior' and has 257,000 miles on it)
