27 darts! Yikes! That's horrid! I mean, I get it that the pressures on a little more in a big match like that but frankly, you should be able to still keep it under 24!

Ye not good Darts at all , but thats the worst ive seen Hankey playing
as he is a top player although not a fan of his i admit
My guess its been something in his left eye bothering him seems like ? something's put him off , or was it drink ? dont think it was too much alcohol before going onto the stage, as i think its been something in his eye

and "IF" that was the case then i feel a Darter should be allowed to go to
wash his face and rinse his eyes out, and try get whatever it was out
most probs been sweat from the lights affecting him , as i heard its hot
when on the stage with the lights

But ye is terrible darts for a pro .

It could have been something as simple as exhaustion.

Could be all of the above too....Van Gerwin didn't play great in that first leg either....

But then I've seen that before with others. It happens and then usually they come back and crank it up.

Seen it happen a 1000 times, bad darts are contagious, when on player starts to play well below their norm, it pulls down the other player.

Thanks for the link! That explains it and must admit it was a valiant effort under the circumstances then!

Good for him for sticking it out too.

According to the BBC and other news, it seems ted suffered a mild stroke.
Kinda take the humor out of it.

I do not believe we will ever know the full story. There is more going here than we see or hear. I watched this match and I do not think Hankey had a chest infection (he claims he was suffering from one since Sunday night.) I also do not think this was the result of a stroke.

If you suffer a stroke you would not continue a darts match, no way no how. You would realize there is something seriously wrong with you and get your butt to the hospital.

I hope Hankey recovers from whatever ailed him, but I doubt you will ever see Ted Hankey on the big stage of a PDC event ever again.

    Cheers

There were discussions in other foren and it seems a slight stroke (it has a special name I've forgotten already) can really produce just this what we had to watch.
I only know for sure he was not drunk - I was there in the press room and the official responsible for the players was asked whether Hankey had drunk a lot. The official said no and that Hankey had big problems with his eye when he arrived at the venue - he couldn't even open it...
But he insisted to go on stage and play the match.

Transient ischemic attack (TIA). It's basically a temporary stroke, although it can cause permanent damage, depending on how long it lasts. Partial or total loss of vision and mental confusion are two common symptoms.

If his lasted that long, he may have permanent problems. I hope not.

Also, stroke victims often have no idea of what's happening to them. It's usually someone else who notices something wrong. I'm not surprised he tried to continue playing.
