I was just reviewing the rules for the Soft tip World chapionship and found it interesting they allow the use of 20 gram darts. I found this unusual since most of the new darts from the Asia are 18 grams or less.

Years ago 16 gram darts were the highest weight allowed, then 18, then medalist allowed 20 gram. Bullshooter held with most other leagues at 18. Coming from Steel 20 grams was the lightest I am comfortable with.

I practiced for months to throw 18 grams darts before I attended my first Bullshooters, only to find out that they don't check. Informally I would estimate about 25% of the pros throw 20 grams. Since they are breaking the "offical rules" this becomes don't ask don't tell topic.

With the exception of some $$$ local events in Florida (Tampa-Orlando) where they really enforce 18 gram limit, I simply ignore the 18 gram limit and throw my normal 20 gram darts.

Im curious to find what dart weight other SEWA player throw ?

I played in only 1 soft tip tourney in my life, and that was in the early 90's, when 16 gm darts were the maximum you could use. I normally throw 30 gm darts, so trying to throw lighter darts was a chore. I actually bought some add on weights, to reach the 16 gm max, as I was given a set of 14 gm darts, just for this tournament, which was in Florida. Every team we faced, pulled my darts to have them weighed, because I was throwing them so hard, it sounded like the darts were a lot heavier. Laughing I soon found out that soft tip was not for me. i know or have played against most of the top pros in the u.s. and very very few throw higher than 18 grams. in fact some of the best throw less than 14 grams.

no one really tries to enforce weight limits unless the player suspected is a jerk. the boards can handle the higher weights now.
