The British "Sun" - not really one of the most reliable newspapers - published an article about James Wade.

It seems he suffers from depressions and is fighting his way back at the moment. He really seems to have a hard time which of course would explain his Premier League problems. Hopefully he will recover!

Here you can find the article:

Great article; there is also a response from James on the PDC website. All the best in his recovery and having a long, HAPPY, prosperous life.

Thanks for the article , Charis.

I will admit that I have, in the past, given a good blasting to James Wade. Here, and other places. This makes a lot of sense, and clears a lot of things up. Who knew, though, that he was going through such difficulties?

Many times, it seemed as though he would fold the tent and "just mail it in." Also, he would make comments that he no longer felt like playing, or that playing was like a chore for him. I took it almost as an insult. How could he be so good, and have so much talent, but feel as though he wanted to quit? How many of us here would give almost anything to be in his shoes, a top ranked player in the world? It seemed like he was selling himself short. It seemed like he was taking his talent, and the game itself, for granted.

Well, I now have a newfound respect for Mr. Wade. I officially take back anything negative I have said about him in the past.

My wife's cousin's son is bipolar and has ADHD. I could tell you stories like the time when he was 8 years old, and his father awoke in the middle of the night to see his son, at the foot of the bed, holding a kitchen knife. Or the times when his father would have to physically restrain him through his fits, because he thought that there were people who were coming to kill him. One minute he would be running around playing, happy and normal, and the next, like somebody flicked a switch, he would be laying on the floor screaming and crying for no specific reason. Now, at 12 years old, he is on several medications, and things are much more under control. There are still times when he has his days, or his moments, but the outbursts and the mood swings are fewer and far between, as well as less intense. Hopefully, this will be the same way for James Wade.

At the professional level, the game is more mental than it is physical. It must have been so hard for James to play well, let alone at a world class level. I give him all the respect in the world for that. Also, for him to come out and share his story and his problems, and put them on public display for the world to see, takes a lot of guts. Much respect to him for that, as well.

While I don't think he will ever be my favorite player, he has certainly earned my respect. I also have to apologize for being so ignorant. I hope that James continues to improve, both in his health, and in his darts, and I wish him the best.

Great article! I can actually relate to what he's feeling. I am glad that he's getting help for his problem.

I feel vindicated because he's my favorite player. I have been taking a ribbing for following the guy for awhile now. Especially by all my nashville darting pals. It was cool for him to come out with this and then win the UK open. Kudos Machine.

James Wade is loaded with talent and potential. When his game is on he is tough for anyone to beat. As much as I was not a fan of his before, I still realized that you have to include him when you talk about players that have the potential to win, not only dart majors, but even World Championships. Now that he is actively seeking help, and attacking his issues head-on, he should become an even greater force to deal with.

Congrats to Wade on his UK Open win. I never thought that I would see the day, but in the end, I was actually rooting for the guy. Well deserved, and well played.
