    I have arrived!!

I was called a Point Monger last night playing Tactics!! Yeah, baby!!

    Very Happy

It was a friendly game....I thought, lol.... and there was some teasing and playful taunting going on between me and my lady league teammate. When I saw a chance to get under her skin and grin at her, I did it. Cricket and Tactics are fun to me if you can move the game well away from the comparatively mundane 01 countdown play.

So, I add my new title to my list of darting accomplishments. Razz Laughing

Thats the great thing about cricket. I have 6 distinct different ways of playing the game. The toughest is the math vs probabilities vs target. That keeps me on my toes. Close and go is my default game. TNC has to be the most common around these parts. Sounds like you got them her on a game of point and go. Otherwise know as PMW. Point Mongering Wh... LOL. They are all fun and I try to change it up as often as possible. Predictable in cricket equals a big target sign on your chest LOL.

I do really enjoy Cricket.... all the possibilities.... back and forth, tons of points scored and you're up or down by... one!

I am not talking about playing people who are seven and nine marking all over the place. But simple, decent games where five marks are routine but not guaranteed.

One personal preference I have that does get me called names occurs when I have the range of a target. If I hit a trip first dart and hitting that target will continue to aid my cause, despite the threat of being called a point monger, I like to stay right there and try to nail it again... and again. Of course I don't hit it again all the time, but just attempting it is enough to incur the wrath of the pointed-upon.

We were playing doubles Tactics last night, all of us league teammates, and having a really fun time.. for the most part, lol. We had 18s closed and they had Triples closed. It was in the late stage of the game. I wanted to close Trips before they started pointing on them.... we had a slim point lead. It made sense to attack the T18 as a miss into the S18 still netted us points. I hit two Trips.... and one opponent jumped to the conclusion that I was PMing again, lol.

I had intended to close Triples....we were ahead on points and sprinting towards the win. But I turned and grinned evilly (see Dave Walsh)(SEWA's not Vancouver's), and said, "I WAS going to use them as Triples, but now, just to piss you off, I'm not...." and I proceeded to mark up 108 points on top of our lead. Twisted Evil

That didn't stem the tide of my growing PM reputation, of course. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I laugh at the point monger people. To some if you are up by 1 point and score more, you're a Point Monger.

I just look at them and say, "hey, I've never lost a game of cricket where I've had more points than my opponent" Smile They usually cool their jets a bit and play on.

I don't believe anyone should point more than just enough to take the lead - if that.

108 points is nothing in the PMing world LOL. My buddy Neil got up 540 points on me. When I was playing close and go on everything that he didn't have closed. He was playing stack up enough points before he had to close and catch up. I ended up winning by 4 points. It really put a ton of pressure on myself but hey thats what practice is for.

I think that's the key phrase to the opponent's reaction, they feel overwhelmed, way behind, losing and like they have no way to catch up.

Points feel like money to me, it's kinda strange. I love lots in that column.

In that particular game, they could have pointed on T20s as they had Triples closed and we didn't, and they could have simply closed the 18s long ago. If you are going to play in an unefficient manner, you are asking to lose.... and we were happy to oblige them. Twisted Evil

Now thats a serious game of Cricket, Actually. Steven and i have been there, Hes a point monger too, so i learned, Take as many points as possible, hey, Three T20 is 180 right, so 108 ahead is nothing, hell even bulls will beat that amount... Point the hell out of it, or it will kick ya in the ass...

You dont like people pointing on you, well, CLOSE the dam numbers... Simple

That was a league match that Biggy beat me in. Ticked me off too becuase I kept trying to stay in the game and he kept coming back and catching up.

I kept trying to crank up the score to break his throw and he kept coming back and eventually I just didn't have the darts to finish it and he beat me.

Was a great match...our score keeper was not impressed! haha actually, he was but it was pretty intense and funny

I'll never forget the first leg I ever took off of Len Heard (I'll also never forget that every losing leg cost me $5 either! Shocked ). Anyway, the game was cricket and I needed four 18's to get ahead on points and a DB to close and win the leg. I hit it and the final score was 1,045 to 1,040.

Maybe we need to make a new bumpersticker that says "Points Happen!" Twisted Evil

(That said, I still recommend that you point as little as possible whenever you're playing me - really. Razz Laughing )

The horseshoe was on the other hoof last night.... see what you think of this.

I was playing a guy who is definitely much better than I am. I did pretty well hanging in there, but was scrambling to stay in the game. I hadn't closed 20s or 17s but was 7 points up. He needed only one Bull.

To summarize, he could score a single 20 or 17 and then hit the last Bull for the win.

He hit a T20.. fine.... but he didn't shift to the Bull, he hit another T20... then a third.

I really didn't think that was cool, to be honest.

When people do that to me, I usually come back and try to throw a round of 9 in the Trip 9/14 area. It let's them they are being a jerk without saying a word. Either that they greatly fear their ability to throw a bull...

Similar thing happened to me once. Opponent threw 7 17s when he only needed one and a bull; I answered with five bulls and won the game two turns later.
