When I lived in Albuquerque I paid my bills a few times with money I won shooting Darts. I know we have the Oregon open. We need more, What is it gonna take to get bigger money tournaments here in Portland.

Does a large big money tournament have to be done by the ADO or PADA? There are many questions i have for this i'll be looking more into this but if any one has any answers or ideas please put them up.

How much does a Tournament have to be worth before you consider going? This is the Big question. A lot of good players don't go to the tournaments because of the travel cost, not knowing what the pot is going to be, ect...

    NO

you can create your own tourney if you want...

    just look at pacmania! Wink

or you can do it by trying to gather sponsors...

    or increase player fees...

or whatever you can come up with.

We've been trying and have certainly raised the bar in the NW over the last several years (Oregon Open $10k, Mid-Columbia $1.3k, Bragging Rights $1K+, Tacoma Open $1-$2K, plus others in Tacoma).

I know we have a long way to go but the key is sponsors and players both. At the Mid-Columbia (one even that pays out $1k+) we still struggle to get more then 30 players...despite a 1st place payout of $300 or more.

It's a work in progress I think and anyone new willing to pitch in and get more going can only help Smile

If you have talked to a corp. type, I or We (PADA) would love to hear who this is and who he works with.

If you can PM me with that info Luckydart that would be great, as i am on the board of the PADA and would love to hear from you on this.

I would also be interested in what you find out. My name is James 'Hudy Hudecek and I am the Regional Dir. for Region 1 - 2 for the ADO. I am out of the Home Plate in Tacoma and have been responsable for getting things rolling here in Tacoma. If you need any help please fell free to contact me here on SEWA.

Like I said before the biggest problem in promoting bigger events you need Sponsers.

The economic climate the past few years has all but made this impossible.
Maybe in the near future we will be able to find some sponsers for bigger events in the Portland Area.

Also Darts has to grow to the size that a sponser would feel that it is worth while for them to invest in the event.

Right now I would say we only have about 30 players that come to local shoots on a regular basis.

When we hold at least a $1000 event we get about double that.

There lies the problem, not enough people showing up and playing.

Note that the PADA is a non-profit organization so most donations are tax deductible as well. Wink
