I've played this a lot and STILL haven't gotten beyond D8... However, last night I wired a D12 at the end of a large out hitting the D9 next door which, of course, left me with six. When I walked up on my next turn I started to consider S2, D2 and then said to myself "Why? I hit this all the time in that damn game of John's!" First dart: D3. Twisted Evil

I can't wait until I feel the same about all the other doubles as well... Rolling Eyes Confused

You're the man Craig!!! And you are dead on....if John has taught us nothing else with this infernal game, he has taught us that we can hit the blamed double 2 and double 3!

Congrats Doug, on doing something I haven't come close to doing as yet.
But, as you will always hear me spouting to myself here...."what one man can do, another can do...", so thanks for the encouragement and the incentive.

I always try this discipline at least once each day, and when I get my first miss, it turns into RTW doubles, still trying to hit each double in 3 darts, but staying on a double until it is hit. Today I had 4 misses on the 20 doubles, but I also missed to dbl bull. Still, I was happy with the effort, and I keep putting the pressure on until the day I finally make it through without even one miss. It will happen.

    John,
That's a tough game. I got as far as 13 twice but both times it got me, humm must be the number. 13 is unlucky. How long did it take you to complete the round the first time? I only ask because I doubt if I will complete it any time soon, you really have to be in one heck of a zone and when I get to 13 the only zone I get in is the twilight zone ne, ne, ne, ne, ne, ne , ne, ne. I'd really hate the day when at a huge event it's just me(or you) and JP,and I (you)have a double to win the tourney.
I don't think i could bring myself to hit that final double against him.
I'd feel terrible, knwoing that he molded one of us into a fine darter, and one of us were the ones to stop him in a major title.
Although if it were someone else,,i have no dillusions!

Ah...but isn't it every pupil's dream to best his master? Isn't the master's task to train a better pupil than himself?

I've been a fan of John's for a looooong time and have had a dream of winning a tournament against him for years.

John shows no quarter on the oche and if he's anything like me, he'd feel insulted if someone didn't give it all he had. Hit the double! Smile and shake his hand! Congratulate him on a game well played...then knock back a few at the bar!

It's getting hard for me to put any pressure on myself while playing this game, because in reality I never really expect to beat it. I mean...how can you, once you have lost like a zillion times! So I just go through it anyway, even if I miss a number or two. Still good practice, and while you don't have the added pressure of a miss sending you to square one, you still have the pressure of doing better than you did before.

Today I got through it missing only 1 number (dbl 6) til a got to the dbl bull, which I also missed. But it still felt good to see and feel my game improving on this one. Eventually I will make it, but I feel no pressure at the moment to do so. It will come when it comes. As long as my game keeps improving, I am a happy camper.

That's amazing, string, congrats on that. Wow. Shame it's an all or nothing game.....did you keep track of it for a BHRTW score??

No I didn't Blackhorse. I have pretty much taken a break from the scoreboard competition for a while. Just working on my game in bits and pieces - especially my outs. But since I do around the world practice on doubles and on trebles every day, I do the blackbelt routine as my RTW doubles routine. I don't keep track of the doubles hit for anything else though.

As I was reminded of my creation,,heh heh, "it's alive!!!!!!", I realised it was time to put myself to the master's test. I will achieve/complete the blackbelt ritual on the Eclipse Pro Trainer board.

Please, do not attempt this at home. I am a professional, and I am trained in mental techniques to avoid permanent mental injury. Laughing

    Reality check!

After almost an hour at this on the Eclipse Pro Trainer I had my best effort. I managed 7 a couple of times, 8 three times, but the best game I got the 16, missing 3 darts for 17. I'm really glad I didn't miss the 16. Very Happy

To cheer myself up, I put the normal Eclipse Pro up and succeeded after a few attempts. Wink

Just started this last night as a change from Bob's 27.

Got to 5 and then it went pear shaped. I can see a lot of time being spent on this Very Happy

Cheers, it's a bit different knowing that you have to hit to stay in.

While my scores are fairly good in most of the practice games, I have been seriously avoiding this one. My darts, in the past, have been really streaky. It seems that recent changes have given me a boost in control over my darts, at least it feels that way. While my basic scores have not yet jumped, I am expecting them to do so quite soon. I just have a better feel for my darts on the oche than I have had in the past. That brings me to this thread....

I'm finally ready to tackle this one. I will be giving it a go on a regular basis. I actually think there are times when I can get around the board successfully. I will probably give myself 10 tries and after that move on to something else. Over a few weeks that should give me a reasonable average.

    Here I come!

After only getting up to eight a few times, I had one game above the rest and made it to 12. That's as far as I've gotten but, considering how streaky I am, that's pretty good for me (so far!).

Don't think I ever cracked 7. Blackbelt is just a freakishly tough task for most of us.

I have currently started a game of doubles that is similar, but instead of game over, when I miss a desired double with all 3 darts, I only get pegged back a number. I'm having a problem finishing even that (you must have a 20% + checkout rate in order to finish it if I calculated that correct).
Maybe I will never beat Blackbelt, but I am going to primarily practice doubles the next 6 months. If I ever feel I am getting close to be able to beat Blackbelt then I'll switch to the real thing Smile

    Congrats on beating it Doug.

The black belt game is an interesting thing. I've never gotten past 6, but I've hit the 1 to 3 in one turn maybe 5 times in the last month. I'll get to 4 or 5 and then kind of lose my concentration, or my nerve, or both. This game is really tough, mentally tough. I really like the do or die aspect of the game.

Because there is no scorekeeping involved, it moves along briskly and once I get focused, 20 to 25 minutes can fly by. It's a great brisk workout.

I think this game would be good for those who tend to dwell on past bad shots, or get too wound up if they don't hit their shots. This is a game of keeping your cool, and concentration up at a high level. You can't get rattled playing it. If you get rattled or upset, that's it. You'll never play it well.

In the beginning, I thought that the game was really difficult. I still see it as difficult, but now I say, "Why shouldn't I be able to finish it?"

The three consecutive marks I've hit have been real confidence builders. They have shown me that the game is not unwinnable. I've just got to keep plugging away at it.

And I'm getting darn good at double 1 and double 2! Very Happy
