Well, you're doing better than me that's for sure... After a lot more than 45 minutes worth of attempts I've only shot at 7 twice. Sad! Rolling Eyes

Correct me if I'm wrong...but the only people who have made it all the way through are those who threw nine-dart 501 games first!

    I've never gotten past D12!

Nah, you could do it without being able to throw a nine darter. As someone said on a different thread, I throw nine darts every game. Trouble is I have to throw a few more to finish it, especially 501.

I think it's silly to imagine you can win this game until you can finish at least 3 out of 5 - or more likely 4 or 5 out of 5 - games of Bob's 27. Since I can't do that - yet - I'm not gonna finish this game. Tried it a few times and actually made it to 8 once, but my usual scores are between 2 and 4.

I'll believe that when someone does it.

All I know is that D13 is my unlucky number!

What I have been playing with at this game lately is using it as both a warmup as well as a practice game. Instead of just starting over everytime I miss a double, I continue on and try to limit the number of misses I have going through all the numbers. I keep track of a personal best of going through with least misses which is currently 4 - several times missing three doubles plus the bull and once with 4 misses on doubles and hitting the bull, and try to better that each time. Then I just practice whatever numbers I have missed for a few throws and a few hits, and then go through it again. This gives me more practice on all the numbers and as I get better, takes not much time at all, as the misses become less and less.

The interesting thing I find in my practice now on doubles is that I really don't have any favorites anymore. I am just as apt to miss 8 or 16 as I am to miss 5, 14 or 19. My consistency on all the numbers is getting much better.

Gosh, to think I might have almost completed this game by accident. I was just going through my normal around the world practice, and things really started to click around double 5. dbl 5, 2 darts, dbl 6 1 dart, dbl 7 1 dart, dbl 8, 1 dart, dbl 9 1 dart.

I got to thinking to myself, why wasn't I playing a game shooting this good?!!!! I continued on and made it all the way 17 hitting each double within the 3 darts of my throw. I got to thinking, did I miss any doubles? The only ones I couldn't remember were 2, 3 and 4 and I think I hit those. Don't remember missing them. That means I would have hit every double up to my current 17 and was still going. I hit 18 and 19 and 20, and that only left the bull. Now for the first time I have some pressure on me, because I'm not sure if I have to chance at hitting all of them plus the bull or not. Moot point, because I proceeded to miss the bull with all 3 darts. Probably just as well, as I would never really know if I had succeeded in the blackbelt game or not.

But it got me thinking, why not try it again? You're shooting good. So off I went, and blazed through the numbers up to double 10....then wired it.
Oh well. It was a good run. And it makes you feel good to know that this game might not be completely out of reach. One day we just might get there....

Closest I've got is d20. I can't believe i missed double 20!! I got lucky with a 3rd dart deflection into double 17. Hit 18 and 19 good. Then missed the double 20! Not too happy. I'm gonna go try again.

I went around the board on fat singles without missing. What is that? Yellow belt?

Actually, can't believe you got all the way to dbl20 PlayM. And then to miss, and dbl20 of all doubles! Crying or Very sad Brutal.

Still, good to know someone got that far that wasn't a total pro.

    WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!>....
Finally after a good solid month blazing away at this challenge I finally completed it....
I was having a pretty darn good day practicing,,things were clicking well, and was trying to improve a couple scores for the sewa-challenge.
Several doubles were last "in"dart sweeties but most were hit solidly.
My second dart at the bull was sucessfull,as I didn't want it to ride on the very last dart,(I would have probbaly choked, lol)
But.....finally,,,after probbaly a million darts I have defeated the
    John Part Black Belt challenge!
I know for all of you there in dartland this can be a frustrating challenge.
I attribute my success to being totally stubborn, pigheaded, and downright
    refuse to lose a challenge.
Thanks John Part for the bloody headache.
P.S. It was witnessed as well!

I should add that it was on my forth attempt.
    First stopped at D9
    Second at D5
    3rd at D13
    then i got mad...lol

Whoo whoo Whitknight! You will have to get a t-shirt made proclaiming the event. You could have it made to match your current outfit. Wink

Well done Whiteknight. I completed the black belt challenge myself a couple of weeks ago, so I cant imagine how you must feel doing it. The challenge is doing it twice, and a third time. I was lucky with first time, and furthest I've got again was D14.

Firstly, thanks to all of you.I appreciate your support on the John Part Black Belt Challenge.
Actually ,,like 180's..after the first one the rest come easy.
I attempted to do it again, but getting stopped D19,and thats my best effort, several times. It's better than getting stopped at that stupid D9!.
Anyhow, congrats Barry on completeing it.
That makes 3 of us ,,
Doubletrouble seemed to have no problem with it.
    You have done it,,
    And now myself,,
    WHo's next??
And maybe we should keep track of how many times we complete it.
I hope others will be sucessfull,,no matter how long it takes.

A somewhat interesting thing happened tonight...

I went down to practice some darts mainly to try some cut-down flights for an outdoor shoot that's happening this Saturday (ANY wind is hell on my big standard flights).

Anyway, as a warmup, I started John's routine. I hit all the fat singles, one at the bulls, then started on the skinny singles. My last turn at those yielded a skinny S20, a DB and a D1. My next turn was D2, D3, D4. Then a D5 on my third dart of the following turn, followed by D6, D7, D8 with the next set. About this time I suddenly realized that I had inadvertantly played John's Blackbelt RTW farther than my previous best (which was only up to D7 after many, many attempts). Of course as soon as I thought that I missed my next three at D9... Neutral

Regardless, I thought it was interesting that I did my best when I wasn't even thinking about it. Pretty much tells me that my issues aren't in the black, white, red or green areas, but in the GRAY MATTER area...

Hmm... there IS some beer left that Bob didn't drink all of left in the fridge... Maybe that might help? Mr. Green

Yes, this is what the exercise teaches, that you perform when you are aware that you must.

Not at all an easy task!

    Congratulations WhiteKnight!

While getting in a practice session with my doubles partner before the Colusa tournament this weekend, I suggested playing this Black Belt doubles game but setup for 2 to play rather than 1. So it was more like 9 ball in billiards with winner breaks.

Diddle for who goes first, then throw at the doubles in order til you miss with 3 darts. Then your opponent does the same. It was great fun, great practice, and puts not just a little pressure on you, as with a miss, there is no guarantee that you will ever make it back to the ochre.

    Thanks very much J.P.
It was much more difficult than first anticipated.
The biggest reward of all is just having you say ,,
    "Congratulations Whiteknight".
A nod from you is greatly appreciated.
I definately don't look at doubles the same way anymore.
