Even when you are sure of an outcome within a match, turnarounds happen and you can be completely surprised. The Mardle/Barney match was like that in the last third. Back and forth even, over a few legs, darters of even that level seem to have their focus and drive and even heart wax and wane.

So calling this championship is very difficult, imo. If Wade plays like he did for most of the Mardle match, and keeps his fire, it should be very close. I don't think Taylor will lose his desire or confidence at any point, baring catastrophe. Wade I think still can, and that might be the slimmest edge Taylor needs to win.

I'd call the odds 6/5 for Taylor.

The greater debate might be whether or not today's Wade can be duplicated in tomorrow's Wade. I believe his drive and desire and self belief have never been higher, and that he is treating this as a World Championship. This may very well be his time to climb up onto the same rung as Taylor. If he can, I think he will stay there and trade tournament wins until he completely dethrones the old Lion.

Still, I say Taylor by only 2 or 3 legs tomorrow.

LOL , I am heading to Las vegas myself in the a.m. for a weekend of R & R ! ( yes 50 + hours of gambling/poker ................LOL) When I got off the plane if the Las Vegas Hilton had Phil at 6-5 I'd throw it all down on Phil, no questions asked. I know how good Wade is but I will " take the man " until Wade " beats the man " in a final ! Laughing Laughing

Betting against Phil these days is like betting against a Seiko watch. Unless the battery runs down, you pretty much know where the numbers are going to end up at the end of the day. Wink

I think it will be Taylor who wins. I do think that Taylor will win by about 5 legs. I just don't think Wade can reproduce his form from todaly tomorrow. Taylor putting him under enormous pressure all the time will take its toll, plus he hasn't proven in the past that he can play like he did today in back to back matches.

    I think, Taylor will win.

I really think, Wade is a great player and he is the one, who really can get a match for Taylor. He impressed me from the first time I did see him play, though he was not as well known then.
But at the moment I think, he´s somehow a problem to play through a match at the same high level.
At one point during a match, he starts to think and then he starts to miss doubles as well. Yesterday I thought he manged better, then earlier the week, so once again at one point in the match it was that he somehow seemed to awake and the average went down a little bit, Mardle could win his few legs. Wade stayed focused and battled back quite well yesterday.

I think, should he manage to battle through a match in the way he started yesterday and earlier the week, Taylor really will get in trouble against him.

Im certain Taylor will win, but I will be routing for Wade all the way to push Taylor with a high average. I would love to see Wade beat him with a 105+ average. In the end I think Taylor wins by 4 legs.

Wade is 25 years old and watching him yesterday I could see that his focus is on the task at hand, he is the defending champ and playing like one..his scoring and doubles are in the area he needs to be to stay with "The Power"...the long format still favors Taylor, he has done nothing to make me believe that Wade will blow him out and his ability to finsh big outs at any moment is second to none..all this being said they each have to defend their legs and the first leg after every break is important..Phil's closing ability gives him the edge in my eyes and he will "cheat" Laughing Laughing as some people like to say Wade out of some important legs and win by that margin..real close the way it should be..

    Embarassed (6/5)

I don't know the way odds are made or paid out - I just meant to say I thought it could be very close, and Taylor would win.

This does look to be Wade's best chance to take him so far however, I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm gonna play the other side now, and say BH don't be embarassed by your handicapping. It appears that others agreed with you and the money was coming in to bet on Wade.

    http://www.stanjamesuk.com/betting/?sID=1608.2&Name=Darts&sltc=269813.2&sl=sltc

Evidence being that PT is down from 2/7 to 1/3 this morning.

I can't remember what Wade was yesterday but he's now 9/4. (probably was 5/2)

Ooh, and check out the link again. THere are a bunch of fun props that weren't there last night. It's like the Super Bowl! Very Happy

Why is it that I can:

    1. Walk to the corner store near my house and play Keno for eight hours and spend thousands of dollars on scratch-off tickets.

    2. Drive for two hours to Mohegan Sun and do whatever but...

    3. Can't post a bet for this game? If the credit card companies can block all US card holders from using the sites, why couldn't they arrange for the proper taxes to be withdrawn along with the bet?

I'm not much of a libertarian, but the recent increase in taxes on cigarettes and the banning of all use of foreign betting services (w/ no domestic alternative) really chaps my ass.

I need to get my laptop hooked up to my monitor so I can enjoy the match on "The Big Screen". Only an hour until showtime.

Very Happy 109 ave for Taylor, blind double bull finish on the last leg , he was never better than he was today, just fantastic...seems to me he'll just keep winning until he gets tired of it..no other reason

    His avg. was 110 Smile.

Fantastic match, played with class by both players. The back to back to back to back 180's was amazing, as was the finish you just mentioned. And, oh yes, that incredible average (the highest ever in a major tournament final, I believe).

Taylor at the absolute tip top of his game.

To anyone who didn't get a chance to watch, I hope that Uggla saved it. You should watch it at the very least the first seventeen legs or so (both players averaged 107) and then the last four or so. I can't imagine seeing better darts from two players at the same time.

This was Ali v. Foreman-famous for Ali's rope a dope tactics.Taylor took all that Wade could throw at him-then slowly turned the tide until there was no recourse for Wade.Wade is the future,Taylor is the present. He has sent his message-he is going nowhere for the present. Twisted Evil

    Taylor - 8 LATT! 109 average. I don't know the doubles percentage....

    It is incredible.

What a match - fair play to James, but let there be no mistake. Phil is Number ONE!

The best standard for a match I have ever seen from two players. It is hard to fathom winning 12 out of 13 legs against a player who is averaging 102+. I'm thinking we should all get used to Taylor vs. Wade finals.

    Everybody, together now:

    There's only one Phil Taylor
    There's only one Phil Taylor
    Walking along, singing a song
    Walking in a Taylor wonderland

    Very Happy

After Taylor got a "comfortable" lead I had to stop watching to get ready for our Tacoma Open and missed the 132 checkout. After seeing the finish and the post-match scene last night, I can't help but think when they compile a video retrospective of the current era of darts this final is one they'll feature like Bristow v. George, Wilson v. Lowe, etc. An instant classic...
