    Hello everyone,

It's been a long time since my last post. After playing league here in South Africa for a few years I dropped out when my wife became pregnant (hey, there are worse excuses!). My son is five years old now and we have rediscovered darts together. He loves getting all three darts to stick in the board and any score over 50 gets written up (and this has the added bonus of maths lessons). He loves watching darts with me every week (premier league downloaded from Youtube) and has the 180 call-out down pat.

Alongside watching the pros I have been lurking on these forums again as I've have had to relearn my game. This has been the best thing for me as I have been able to start from scratch and address those issues that were holding me back. After only a couple of months of regular practice I have got my mechanics to the point where I am satisfied that I have a good basis to build on with no major foundation issues. My average has shot up and I can now consistently average over 50ppt (much better than before). I can also hit 180s with more regularity (three in one evening last week - one against the missus much to her chagrin!)

Apart from this I have dedicated a lot of time to my cover shooting. If I feel the treble 20 bed is blocked I now am more likely to go down to the 19s and I am seeing good results. One change I have made is to move from the 19s (if blocked by second dart) across to the 17s rather than the 18s. I find the switch much easier and natural then a return up to the 18s. Does anyone else do this? I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on whether this makes sense. It just feels 'right' to adjust slightly horizontally to the 17s. Obviously this is contingent on the balance left but for pure scoring it doesn't make much of a difference.

    Be well.
    Watch out! Im getting better!

    Nothing wrong with that approach.

One thing I used to do to practice covers is to switch up right away not matter what. Basically just go 20,19,19 etc for a while.
