I live in a small fishing village far from even a corner store. I have to drive around an hour to get to darts so drinking has never been an option for me!!

An HOUR! Yikes! Ya, that would definitely make drinking a no no!

One of the problems is that somehow till now no one has "invented" reasonable non-alcoholic drinks for adults....

I think there are plenty, it's just that no one stocks them. How hard would it be, for example, to have some lemonade or Gatorade? Seems to me it wouldn't be that difficult. Coffee? easy, everyone does that because they think it's better to be an awake drunk then a sleepy one! lol but where is the tea? juice? whatever...

Most bars don't do coffee even unless it's a restaurant/bar. I drink soda when I play..my personal choice, I gave up drinking 10 years ago. My fair share of times I'll get takeout for my wife and I though..

And when the bar charges you 5 bucks for a lemonade everyone flips out. Bars are in business to make money. The idea that the bars "owe it" to their clientele to provide a myriad of non alcoholic (cheap) alternatives is just plain naive. Jmho

That's just it SM -- I don't mind them charging me what they charge for drinks. If it's $5 for a JD or $5 for a lemonade I'm ok with that.

They are in business to make a living, not give me a place to play darts and I'm ok with supporting them.

lately, what I've done is buy a JD and milk it all night but if I could buy a lemonade (not fake crap either) for $2.50 I'd buy 3 or 4 of them at least.

So, the price ought to be like anything else.

I'll drink 3-4 sodas a night at least. If the bartender charges me I leave a buck. If they don't charge or do free refills (like my home bar) I leave $1-$2.

In the case of my home bar, they know I carpool with another player and figure they would gladly give away sodas to any patron who is a DD.

A myriad? Yeah I guess I can see not having a whole ton of stuff, but if I'm a regular and ask them to carry one thing maybe they could try it.

Depending on the bartender at our place you get your bottled water or O'Doul's for free. They site the Designated Driver rule and you just drop them a buck of two for a tip.

On the other hand the $2.25 beers and the 3-4 finger shots in a plastic cup for those that drink are also great!!

I can remember there once was some kind of regulation here in Germany that all restaurants, bars, pubs and whatever had to offer one non alcohholic drink cheaper then beer - that's difficult in Germany as most of the time beer is the cheapest drink on offer. I don't know whether that changed but I thought it quite sensible.

Personally I'd be okay with paying $4-5 for a soda, since I'd only drink 3-4 of them at most. That's still way less than my alcohol tab of $100 or so was
