I'm asking this purely for my own curiousity though the replies may be used to change the event structure for next years Oregon Open.

Note that I've been slowly returning the current structure back to those that were so successful in the 80's. Blind draw on Friday night, two Doubles events (it's almost a bit silly to set yourself up with someone just for one event), matching singles and doubles events per game type and matching events for men and ladies.

One difference that we tend to do up here is to put cricket on Sundays when it always used to be on Saturdays (because it put the so-called marque event, Mens' 501 Singles, as the last event of the tournament). We do this because it was thought that cricket is more popular up here so more would stay to play it on Sunday. Now I'm not so sure (hence the survey).

If we do change the format for next year and use knockouts (getting rid of round robins), I'd like to run two more events: Mixed Cricket Doubles and another blind draw for Saturday night.

I am not particular which game on which day, but I do hate it when you start the day playing cricket doubles and have to switch to 501 singles. We both prefer all the same game on the same day. Mixed event Saturday night....

I like that idea a lot!

I prefer one format each day. It doesn't matter what day each is on, as long as it's either all cricket, or all 501, on that given day.

I have always been fond of the 501 on Sat. and Cricket on Sunday. Hate to change gears in the middle of a day.
A big time saver to look at is run a singles then the opposing doubles together, i.e. Ladies singles 501 first then Mens doubles 501 next. By the time you go the first round of ladies using alternating boards(2,4,6,8,etc.) you can then start the doubles on 1,3,5,7. Before you know it half the field is eliminated and you have only used 2/3 the time you thought you needed for the events.

Definitely something we're going to consider for next year. This year was still with the modified round robin format that they've used for the last 31 years so it wouldn't have worked as well.
