I did this for a practice tonight - I went around the board in order of the numbers, shooting to get three marks in each bed. Seeing how few darts I could take to go from 1 thru Bulls. But, you aren't allowed to go over three marks per bed. So if you don't hit the Triple with the first dart, then you try for the Double. It makes for a practice for both targets.

    And if you hit it?

If you hit the Triple, you mean? You move on to the next number. Get the three marks and move on. Same as if you hit the Double with your second dart. See how few darts it takes to complete the circuit.

You can score like golf, if you like.

Three marks in three darts is Par.

1 thru bulls ? whats the point of trying to hit triple 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, these triples are not required for finishes. Unless you are playing shanghai. Don't think anyone plays that game these days.

Practice. You’re still controlling where the dart is going or at least trying to lol. Than again sometimes those numbers come into play to set up your out.

Agreed. Even John Part used all of the board to warm up for a practice. I believe the point is to be accurate everywhere, but what would JP know? LOL

    Exactly.

Add to that the desire to throw at something other than the T20 a thousand #@*&$ times.

Have you not noticed that you have played and practiced for how many years and you still cannot hit the T20 at will? That shows that you never will. And if your ego rises up at this point, tell me which of the World Champions can hit the T20 at will. Yeah, none. Which means it will always be a comparative rolling of the dice when you take aim at that one target. Or any target. You may as well try to have some fun by playing other games, looking at other targets.

If you want to play and play until you hit a 9 dart 501, or a second if you have been so good, you may as well go play a slot machine. Just keep pulling that lever until you hit the jackpot.

If you want to get better at your game, and I myself still do, then honing your mechanics is the best way. Just hucking and hoping to hit the T20 over and over and mind numbingly over ain't gonna do it - otherwise it already would have. Shooting at other targets and finding out why you are missing and correcting those mistakes will make you more accurate. Shooting at other targets will prepare you better when out of the ordinary targets do come up. And btw, I have seen many people try for T1, D1 with 5 left, for example. If the other targets never come up, and some won't, big deal, it's still an accuracy drill.

Getting more accurate will mean improving your game and your enjoyment whether you are a social darter attempting to become more serious about your game or if you are a tournament player trying to win more events.

Or, have a nice coupla hours pounding the T20 again, if that really is what turns your crank.

Yes, yes I do. At a board and everything.

As a matter of fact, I checked out 141 at home practicing yesterday and, as far as I am concerned, that concluded a 9 darter. In my mind. It was fantastic. What came before the 141 isn't relevant in this case.

I still don't agree that shooting at triples that aren't a factor in finishing a game. Never seen any one shoot triple 1 to finish five it's a stupid shot unless it's a pro shooting in a exhibition shoot.

There are other more interesting ways to improve you game.

In closing how many tournaments have you won ?

John Part hmmmm what has he won lately?

First off, your first sentence doesn't make sense.

Next - how many tournaments have I won? If you know me at all, John, and if you read my above post a little slower, you would see it is about having fun. Only one person wins a singles event each time. One.

What has John Part done lately? Not that much, nope. But what has he done, there was something, wait, it's on the tip of my tongue... oh yeah, three World Championships.

So, you with your mindless tossing at the T20 and T19, you've won more? What have YOU done lately? What have you done even in total?

    F**cking people.

But okay, there are more interesting ways to improve your game. Yeah, I didn't say this was the only frikkin way to ever practice again, did I? I myself have come up with many different ways to play and practice.

But let's just imagine, against all the evidence, that you do want to actually contribute something positive here - what is your more interesting way to improve your game?
