    All,

Since I will continue to run competitions and this format is new I have a question:

What length of time is a good period to give people to respond to their 'you've won' notification? 24hrs? 2 days? 1 week?

    Let me know your thoughts.

Well, it depends. How are the winners notified of winning? If they are sent an email then 2 (business) days should be plenty of time to respond. If they are just notified via post on here that may or may not get notification to them unless they actually log in and check the site, then I'd say a week. I guess this would be a good time for everyone to make sure your email address and notification settings are up to date! lol

My thoughts are that while email might take longer (laughing but I'm willing to accept), on the site should be faster. Why? I'm giving away sets of darts that can run $100 easily at retailers. The reason I give them away is to promote the site and the darts manufacturer. Promoting the site means people come to the site, hang out, post etc right? So if they only come once in a while and don't check their confirmation than why not limit the time they have to a shorter period (and a week may be that period too for that matter) to ensure they come back to check more often? and then maybe participate?

I guess my thinking is that if I post on the site, I should really hear within 24hrs. In the last comp I posted, sent the confirmation, waited and waited and waited and finally said "to heck with it" and confirmed someone else. They responded right away and got the darts...then maybe a week after all that the original winner notified me and I had to let her know I'd pulled her win due to lack of response.

So I want to add a condition to make it clear you need to check in at least when the comp's over, and respond quickly ;) and to let those, like yourself, know that I value your being here more (sorry folks it's true) than someone just once in a while popping in.

    Maybe I'm off base LOL

That does seem very fair, and you make a valid point. The whole point of this is to get more people coming to and participating in the site daily. So I'd say 48 hours to respond. But I would also say something like, The winner will be announced on "XX/XX/XXXX" date. That way at least they can try to remember to check the site that day.

I like it. Let's see what others think. VanO? CraigB? Bueller?

Hey sorry! Hadn’t been trolling the forums much. Especially since I didn’t win darts ;)) I agree with the conditions. I think it has to be sort of a “winner has to be present” kind of thing. If you say when the winner is announced 48 hours is pretty generous IMO

OK, I will likely add this and maybe one other condition -- to enter you must be a member and have at least one post or something like that. I have some Shot Darts I'll be reviewing and giving away soon

I don’t know how the competitions really work but you can always cater the prerequisites to the prize.
